I always feel very good whenever I hear, that Indians are doing something in upcoming technologies. This is mainly because Indian Software Industry has always been stuck with legacy technology, and it gives me pleasure when I hear that Indians are breaking boundary and trying out new stuff.
The reason for old technologies in India could be that, Indian Software companies(patni, infy, tcs, wipro) has mainly focused toward service type of project. These projects mainly include maintenance and support work. Obviously chances of getting support work for new technology will be very rare.
To support my thoughts I did a simple research on current job scenario in Indian software industry. I simple search of Job offers based on various technical skill. I did search on naukari.com(a popular job search engine in India) and monster.com. The findings of the research are below.
India Job Scenario

US Job Scenario

Learnings
The smaller Pie for ROR was obvious but the catch here is the difference. In case of US, ROR is more than 10% of PHP, whereas in case of India it is just around 2.7%.
Companies working with ROR in India
I have discussed a lot about Indian Software Scenario, Lets come to main point here. Currently, the INDIAN side of Rails is a small community, but growing at a rapid rate. In near future we expect a larger community from India. Recently I've came across a decent compilation of companies working on Rails.

Might come in handy as a reference list of companies to pass on, though i don’t have anything to do with RoR. You could keep this post updated with new companies.
Will try to keep this list updated.
Thanks
@nitin, based on the graph above, how long will it take the ROR jobs to be popular in India?
Thanks
I thinks this thing will take some time. But If you see the startup scenario in India, things are getting better. A lot of startup are booming, and all these startup uses such technologies.
So I am very bullish that things will get better.
Hey Nitin
thanks for the list of companies and their website. I know this takes a lot of effort and work, so its appreciated.
Don’t worry, its just copied
I appreciate for taking efforts for the same
Anyways the blog is nice.
I think this is missing many good names…. to name few Azri.in , Techmastiff… and good product companies who could hire best talent like cleartrip.com , mapunity.in , whol.ly , citizenmatters.in etc
nobody, it seems that you are quite a ROR enthusiast.
Anyways thanks for sharing new name here. I would love to add them into the list.
Well Yes, I did similar kind of research some time back. to find out rockstar teams in India, as capable as companies like mocra, hashrocket , pivotallabs… I was disappointed .. there arent any in India yet.. But I am really optimistic that one or many among this list will make the mark in course of time.
Hi
Please add Mortar Systems too in the list. We do a lot of work on Rails and I have personally consulted in Vinsol and headed/managed Rails team at Synerzip. Our latest offering is http://www.workforastartup.in – a channel for Indian startups to attract potential talent.

Chetan.

Hi Sailesh ,
if you want to get good job opportunity then go to Java or .Net
odn’t go for ror
big indian companies never work in ror
only very small companies can work in ror for their small project
ror is not suitable for big projects
ROR not suitable for big projects…. bull****
Keep your facts straight. Lots of big companies are using ROR for lots of really big time projects.

Hi Harish,
Thats great that you are working in ROR. In my opinion every language is great, you just have to master it.
It might be true that ROR, won’t be as widely used as Java, but I am also sure that there will be fairly decent market for ROR as well. There will be companies those will be using ROR for their websites.
thanks…….
hey all ROR gurus.. i am a fresher still in my last sem of BE (IT) ..
now seeing the saturation in the area of .net and java..
i was doing a survey of job opportunities in india as well as a good training center for ROR…
the questions arising in my mind are..
1) will it be a bright future ahead if i take my career with ROR?
2)are jobs available in india for ROR?
3)are the companies good?
4)are their proper training institutes in pune or anywhere else in maharashtra ?(i’m prefering pune because after readin this blog i feel like pune is the best place for me )
i am quite confused about my career.
