Thanks for making this – it’s the only bookmarklet I’ve found that doesn’t call a script on someone’s website. This calls Google directly — I appreciate that.

The search engines are providing url shortening service but the market is yet to take kindly to it, For instance, some social bookmarking sites don’t like shortened urls. And unless acceptance happens widely, users may not resort to url shortening.

Search engines have started providing URL shortening service. AAfter Search although provides this facility but it does not want you to install its toolbar. You can simply go to the home page and paste the long URL that you like to shorten in the search box.
